Strawberry Santa Hats and Reindeer Ornaments

This holiday season, my friend and I decided to host a holiday crafts party. We gathered a small group of friends together and spent the evening noshing on snacks, sipping on wine and assembling button wreaths, holiday cards, popcorn garlands and more. A friend created the stash of berry cute Santa hats pictured above.

Sadly, I got so carried away by all of the festive fun that I neglected to take a ton of photos of our creations…our ourselves! I suppose that’s OK on some other level though, because I fully enjoyed the event.

Cork Reindeer

My favorite craft activity of the evening = the Cork Reindeer Christmas Ornaments, an Oriental Trading purchase. (But seriously, that site is full of bargains of amazingness. I purchased several items earlier this year for a friend’s Vintage Bachelorette Bash.)

The Cork Reindeer kit came with almost everything needed, and they were fairly easy to assemble. The hardest step was attaching the head to the body, which we did by using a nail to create small holes in the corks to insert the wooden stick, aka its neck. We used a mini glue gun for the rest of the project. I ended up gifting some of these lil guys as wine bottle ornaments, and attached a few as accessories to small gifts for colleagues. Seriously adorable, no?

Last year, I made marshmallow reindeer, and sat at a desk station near an inflatable reindeer named “I’m Rein Burgundy?” Perhaps I’ll have to find another reindeer item to fixate on next year. :-P

I hope your holiday season is merry and bright. Many cheers to the new year!

Tis’ the Season for Candy Cane Sweets

Candy Cane Candies

One of these things is not like the others…but is definitely still super delicious. :) (I had just talked myself out of eating some of our leftover Halloween candy when my roomie walked in with a new batch of seasonally appropriate sweets.)

In related news, my roomie was at it again last night, decorating our apartment for the holidays. The santa I’ve affectionately dubbed “Kitchen Claus” has made his jolly return. It’s almost time to play round two of Spot the Santas!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas…

I’ll admit that I was completely caught off guard when I saw Target’s holiday commercial airing on TV in October. And more recently, I’ve noticed other “Christmas is coming” signals from the storefront displays around the Magnificent Mile. (Love the throwback paper chains as seen in the Jonathan Adler display window in Chicago. :))

But the spirit of the season REALLY hit me when I arrived home one day last week. The first “Warning: Holiday cheer ahead” alert was the “Dear Santa, I have issues” sign hanging from the doorknob of one of our hallway closets.

A few steps further ahead, a shower of Santas rained upon me from every corner of our apartment. So while my roomie proceeded to hang garland and tie festive bows, I cranked up the Michael Bublé holiday radio station on Pandora and roamed around our apartment playing “Spot the Santas”. The current Santa count: 11 — though I’ve been told there may be more coming. (“Kitchen Claus,” as I’ve dubbed him, is my favorite of the bunch below; that’s why he gets primetime placement.)

My roomie L-O-V-E loves to decorate. And I do admit feeling very “holly jolly” after our night of adventures. We’ve since tackled the tree installation, too! You can expect to see more of my roomie’s home decor displays on this blog. After all, she does make our apt something super sweet to live in. :)
